hosting a 2 day mask making workshop presented by
ROBIN PARSONS
Ze'Bra Art Ed.
Tuesday February 19 4:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Saturday February 23 11:00 am - 2:00 pm
(Both days are required to complete your mask.)
Participants will learn how to make papier mache' masks using plastic forms, recycled material, and fabric.
The workshop is led by Robin Parsons. Robin began making papier mache’ masks while teaching 5th grade at Castaic Union School District. Since papier mache’ is such a FUN AND EASY way to create, it quickly became a popular workshop when Robin became the Art Coordinator for the school district and taught the craft to teachers for Professional Development. She has refined the process over the years using a simple flour and water paste that binds the paper and recycled material into a durable finished product.
Robin earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from California State University, Long Beach, a Master of Fine Arts degree from Claremont Graduate University and she holds a Single Subject Art Credential from California State University, Northridge. After teaching and serving as the Art Coordinator at CUSD for eight years Robin was laid off due to budget cutbacks in the arts. As art education continues to diminish in our public schools, Robin finds it necessary to bring art education to our communities.
Sign up for the two-day workshop and make a mask that you can be proud of. Robin will be guide you through every stage of the mask making process so that you can take what you’ve learned and continue making masks and other delightful papier mache’ art to give as gifts, decorate your home, or wear for Mardi Gras, Halloween and Dia de los Muertos.
Let your mask reflect your inner self or create a new identity all together. Whether your mask suggests whim or wit, wisdom or wonder your creation will be uniquely yours.
This workshop is geared toward adults. Similar workshops could be offered to children in the future if there is an interest.
